Upper Mississippi Road Cruise

Click on the title for more info. Did another road cruise in this area today in the Savanna District up near Thomson,IL and then back down to Lock and Dam 13 north of Fulton,IL. Saw Snowy Egrets, white Pelicans, THOUSANDS of Gulls who were all over the road in one spot, MANY Great Blue Herons, Goldfinches by the score, Kingfishers,Cormorants,Coots and allot of other waterfowl I have yet to identify including some kind of beautiful teal which were all paired off together. I forgot to put the memory in my Fuji film camera. DUH!

Could have gotten a really great shot of a Great Blue taking flight after he decided my car creeping along didn't suit him. The Egrets seemed a bit tamer as did the Coots. Several of the Great Blue's seemed tamer than they are up here as they were close to the roadside tolerating allot more noise than they do here. In the area where my parents lived in Florida they seemed to adopt households who fed them as was the case with my parents and some of their friends notably their Episcopalian priest friends', Father Comfort and his wife house on Pine Island. I've never heard of one case of that up north. Ever.

So for my birthday on Monday, it's off to the same area again and THIS time I'll have memory cards in both cameras. Sometimes bird shots aren't all that great but it's worth a try to see if I can get a heron in flight again or some other extraordinary shot.
